WASHINGTON, D.C. - In its BIG EAST opener on Friday afternoon, the usually strong offense for Villanova (6-1-1, 0-1-0 Big East) came up empty for the first time this season as Georgetown (7-1-0, 1-0-0 Big East) claimed a 4-0 victory at North Kehoe Field. The game marked the second time in as many years that the Hoyas have beaten the Wildcats in the teams' first conference game.

Villanova gave up a 17-1 shot advantage to its hosts and surrendered one goal in the first half and two more in the second half. The Wildcats pressed for an equalizer early in the second half with the game still within reach but never managed to get a shot off in the period before Georgetown sealed the outcome with the two insurance goals.

In the first half, the Hoyas got on the board in the 24th minute when Sara Jordan placed a ball into the top right corner of the net from the left side of the penalty box. Kelly D'Ambrisi was credited with the assist with a pass from the middle of the field.

With just over four minutes left in the first half, junior forward Justine Wollner (Downingtown, Pa.) got off the only shot of the game for Villanova when she fired an attempt that was saved by Georgetown goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin. The opening period was mostly a defensive battle in the midfield and culminated with the Hoyas owning a 5-1 shot advantage.

The middle of the second half is when Georgetown started to put away some of its scoring chances and Ingrid Wells scored her fifth goal of the season in the 64th minute off of a cross towards the front of the net. Camille Trujillo slid the ball along the goal line for Wells to knock in.

Later in the period, the Hoyas tacked on a pair of late goals in the 78th minute and the 86th minute, respectively. Catherine Cabot tapped home a loose ball after a throw-in for the third Georgetown goal and Amy Speck closed the scoring with an empty-net goal after evading Wildcat senior goalkeeper Molly Williams (Hinsdale, Ill.).

Williams had seven saves for Villanova, while DesJardin needed to make just the one stop for the Hoyas.

Villanova returns home on Sunday at Noon when it hosts Fordham in its final non-conference game of the regular season.

NOTES: The Wildcats lead the all-time series with Georgetown by an 11-3-2 margin, though they have lost the last two meetings by a combined 7-0 score ... This was the fifth straight season that the teams met each other in their BIG EAST openers.
