Wildcats Fall in Defensive Battle

Bethlehem, Pa.- The Villanova women's soccer team fought hard in a defensive battle against Lehigh but fell 1-0 on Friday night.

The first half resulted with no score from either team and only two shots on goal, all by Villanova. Sophomores Ida DiClemente and Kristin Barbour both spilt the credit for the only shots on goal in the half.

In the second half Lehigh would earn their first and only goal of the game off a penalty kick in the at the 55-minute mark delivered by Annika Jansa. The Mountain Hawks would come back to lead in shots on goal with a total of five to Villanova's three.

Wildcat goalie Emily Harris had a total of four saves on the night.  The Wildcats placed three shots on goal while the Mountain Hawks had five. 

A late shot by sophomore Conner Huggins in the 74th minute of the game just missed as it was saved by goalie Sam Miller.

The Wildcats finished with nine shots and four saves, DiClemente and Jasmine Ruiz had four of the nine shots taken by Villanova.

Next, Villanova will return home to host La Salle on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
