Women's Soccer Stays Perfect with 2-0 Blanking of Lehigh
Sept. 4, 2002 Bethlehem, PA - On Wednesday, Sept. 4 in Bethlehem, Pa., the Villanova women's soccer team remained perfect on the season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Lehigh. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 2-0-0 overall on the season while the Mountain Hawks fall to 1-2-0.
With the score tied at 0-0, Villanova's Kelly Breslin beat Mountain Hawk goalkeeper Erin Iwaskiewicz to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Laura Johnson notched the assist on the Breslin goal.
In the second half with Lehigh trailing 1-0, the Mountain Hawks fouled Johnson in the box. Johnson followed up the foul by drilling home a penalty kick past Iwaskiewicz in the 56th minute. Lehigh was unable to match the Wildcat goal total and was defeated 2-0.
Chrissy Dolan earned the shutout in net for the `Cats as she saved one shot in goal. The shutout was Dolan's sixth of her career and improved her career record to 7-0-1.
On offense for Villanova, Breslin notched yet another goal to give her three on the season. It is also the second straight game that the freshman has scored in to begin her young, promising career.
Villanova will return home Friday, Sept. 6, to host the La Salle Explorers at 4:00 p.m.
