Entering her first season as an assistant coach for the Villanova women’s soccer program is Janel Schillig. She will be in charge of recruiting and will assist with daily office operations. Schillig wrapped up her collegiate career one season ago, leaving the Wildcats as one of the finest goalkeepers to ever step foot on the Main Line.
Schillig owns a number of Villanova records including saves in a season and best goals against average in a season. As a freshman in 1998, she earned Big East All-Rookie Team honors. One season later, Schillig was named the Big East Goalkeeper of the Year as well as receiving All-Conference first team status. As a senior in 2001, she helped lead the Wildcat women’s soccer program to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. For her play, Schillig was named to the All-Big East second team and the Soccer Buzz All-Mid Atlantic Region second team.
This past spring, Schillig signed with and played for the WUSA’s Philadelphia Charge which plays its home games at Villanova Stadium.
