In her first season as an assistant coach at Villanova is Shannon Myers, who will assist in all areas of the program and will work primarily with the team's goalkeepers. Myers joins the Wildcats from Syracuse University, where she was a four-year letterwinner and starting goalkeeper for the Orange.
As an assistant coach for Syracuse during the 2007 season, Myers was responsible for creating goalkeeper training philosophies and for assisting with the instruction of the goalkeepers and field players during individual training sessions. For the season she helped the team's goalkeepers post a 1.15 team goals-against average and a .819 save percentage while registering six shutouts.
Myers will also bring a great deal of experience in strength and conditioning to Villanova, as she has worked as a strength and conditioning coach at Syracuse in 2005-06 and for Athletic Evolution in 2007. At Syracuse she handled the strength and conditioning for the women's lacrosse, women's soccer and field hockey teams. Myers coached young male and female athletes in speed, agility and strength programs for Athletic Evolution in Massachusetts.
In the club soccer ranks, Myers worked as a staff counselor as part of the Region I ODP camp in 2005 and 2006. She also has worked Soccer Plus camps during the past year alongside well-known coaches Tony DiCicco, Lisa Cole and Ziggy Zigante. She is a member of the NSCAA and holds a state goalkeeping license.
During her collegiate career, Myers was a four-year starter for the Orange and holds school records for single game saves, fewest goals allowed in a season, career saves and single season save percentage. She was named the Syracuse Player of the Year in 2004 and for her career played more than 4,000 minutes in goal with career marks of a 1.29 goals-against average and .799 save percentage.
Myers earned a B.A. in Communications from Syracuse in 2005 and a M.S. in Public Relations in 2006.
