Hennessy Honored As Big East Defensive Player-of-the-Week
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova junior goalie Jeanne Hennessy (Mahopac, NY/ Chaote Rosemary Hall) was honored on Monday, Oct. 27, as the Big East Defensive Player-of-the-Week for her performance last week in victories over Providence and Boston College.
Against Providence on Friday, Oct. 24, Hennessy saved two shots and did not allow a goal in 72 minutes of work, in the Wildcats 6-0 victory over the Friars.
On Sunday, Oct. 26, she saved six shots and recorded her fifth shutout of the season, as Villanova (8-6-2 overall, 6-3-1 Big East) defeated Boston College 1-0.
With their two weekend victories, the Wildcats extended their unbeaten streak to five games and clinched a spot in the four-team Big East Conference Tournament.
A graduate of Chaote Rosemary Hall High School in Mahopac, NY, Hennessy has started all 16 games in goal for the Wildcats in 1997. For the season, she has saved 161 shots for a .880 save percentage and allowed only 22 goals for a 1.50 goals against average. In her last 10 games, Hennessy has helped lead Villanova to a 6-2-2 record, after the Wildcats began the season 2-4.
