McGhee Named Big East Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week
Villanova, PA.-- Senior midfielder Maura McGhee was named the Big East Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week on Monday, Oct. 13, for her play last week in Villanova victories over St. John's and Syracuse.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8 against St. John's, the Wildcats were down 1-0 at the end of the first half, but two McGhee goals helped rally Villanova back for a 3-1 victory. McGhee scored the game tying goal with just over 30 minutes to play and later scored the Wildcats third goal to seal the victory.
Against Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 12, McGhee once again was the offensive force behind the Wildcats. She scored the only goal of the game, blasting a shot just inside the right post in the first half, as Villanova (6-6-1) went on to defeat Syracuse 1-0. The goal was McGhee's second game-winning goal of the season and helped the Wildcats improve their Big East Conference record to 4-3.
Over the last 10 games, the Wildcats have a 6-3-1 record, with McGhee scoring 10 goals during that span. For the season, she has 22 points, on 10 goals and two assists, leading the team in both points and goals.
