Villanova Rowing Competed in the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday
Oct. 29, 2017

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Yesterday the Villanova Women’s Rowing Team competed in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta yesterday. This Regatta marks the end of the team’s Fall racing schedule. Head Coach Carissa Adams stated, “Overall, it was a successful day and we feel that our team put on a great performance this Fall.” The women’s team had 12 entries for yesterday’s competition with over 50 female student-athletes representing Villanova.

The Regatta started off strong with a third place finish by Villanova’s senior twins Briggs and Morgan Mroz. The duo has competed in this event all four years rowing for the Wildcats and it was a great way to mark the end of their collegiate head racing experience. The other two entries for this event finished in 14th and 16th out of 21 boats.

Following this race was the Women’s Collegiate Freshmen/Novice-4 event where Villanova captured second and 13th out of 21 entries. The next event that Villanova had a boat competing in was the Women’s Championship-4 event where the Wildcats had two entries. They had a strong race, placing 20th and 31st out of 41 entries. Up next for Villanova was the Novice eights in which both boats are comprised of individuals who just learned how to row this fall. The two entries finished 22nd and 24th out of 31 boats competing. Today was their first introduction to head racing and Coach Adams stated, “I thought they handled themselves magnificently. The first boat down the course experienced some difficulties in the first half of the race but were able to stay composed and finished strong.”

The final races of the day for Villanova were the Women’s Club Championship eight’s and the Women’s Championship-8 event. In the Club Championships, the Wildcats had two entries finishing in 14th and 30th out of 43 entries. In the Championship-8 the varsity placed eighth out of 11 entries.

Father Rob was in attendance for all the events held on the Schuylkill yesterday, celebrating a mass with over 150 parents, athletes and alumni. Coach Adams said, “all in all it was a great day on the Schuylkill and the Villanova Women’s Rowing team showed great strength with the competition they faced.”
