RICHMOND, VA. -- The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) today announced the recipients of the inaugural Team Academic Excellence awards for the 2016-17 campaign. In the sport of women’s rowing, the Villanova Wildcats earned the award for having the highest grade point average (GPA).
The Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes the institution with the highest collective grade point average (GPA) in all 22 sports sponsored by the CAA. The team GPA is a calculation of the grade point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution’s roster throughout the final day of their respective championship seasons during the 2016-17 academic year.
Villanova competed at the CAA Rowing Championships last May and finished third overall in the final team standings. Three Wildcats earned CAA honors for their efforts last season. Hailey Hurteau was named to the CAA All-Academic Team, while seniors Emily Lenane and Maggie Cavanaugh were named to the All-CAA Team.
