Villanova, Pa. - The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the scholar athletes for the 2007 season and the Villanova Wildcats had two representatives, senior Elena McDermott and sophomore Jennifer Niemczyk.

McDermott, who was a member of the Varsity Eight boat this past year for the Wildcats, has received this award all three years she was eligible.

Niemczyk, a part of the Varsity Lightweight Four boat, is receiving the honor for the first time.

The requirements for selection by the CRCA include meeting all eligibility requirements defined by the school, in at least their second year of eligibility and rowed in at least 75 percent of the team's spring races.

McDermott also received academic all-area distinction from the Philadelphia Inquirer earlier this month.
