McDermott Receives Academic All-Area Distiction

Senior member of the women's rowing team recognized for her academic and athletic achievements.

Philadelphia, Pa. - Villanova senior rower Elena McDermott was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team when the team was announced on Thursday.

McDermott, a native of South Orange, New Jersey, is a member of the Varsity Eight boat. This season she has led the Wildcats to a seventh place finish at the BIG EAST Championships and a second place finish in the third final of the Knecht Cup.

She also led the Varsity Eight to a runner up finish against Connecticut and a seventh place finish at the ECAC Metro Championships last weekend.

McDermott has also been named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star the past three seasons and has maintained a 3.72 GPA during her four years at Villanova and will earn a degrees in political science and the honors programs.
