Wildcats Win Frosh/Novice Fours at Head of the Schuylkill
Oct. 31, 2004
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - At the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday, Villanova had the winning boat in the Frosh/Novice Fours race. The Wildcat boat crossed in 17:45.04 to pace the field of 16 teams by 37 seconds. Delaware and Johns Hopkins came in second and third, respectively. The Wildcats also got a win in the Varsity Fours race, crossing in 17:20.43 to beat the field by nearly three seconds. Villanova beat out 31 other boats in the race. Villanova also entered two boats in the Frosh/Novice Eights and placed 29th and 40th out of 56 teams. The Villanova "A" boat had a time of 17:29.47 to finish 29th, just over two minutes off the pace set by Princeton. The Villanova "B" boat came in 40th with a time of 18:38.03.
The Wildcats competed in the Heavyweight Championship Eights and were sixth in a field of 21 teams. The team's placement was affected by a crash that included boats from Louisville and St. Joseph's. The Wildcats likely could have finished as high as third in the race before the crash. Instead, Villanova's time of 15:11.42 was 40 seconds behind the winning time, and put the Wildcats behind Pennsylvania, Navy, Marist, Drexel and Louisville. Villanova's final boat placed second in the Lightweight Eight race. The Wildcats were three seconds behind Carnegie Mellon in the field of five boats. Villanova wraps up its fall season on November 14 when it competes in the Belly of the Carnegie Invitational Regatta on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, New Jersey.
