VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team is back on the turf in preparation for the Spring 2013 season and will participate in a variety of events this fall, including the annual Alumni Game, two tournaments and two scrimmages.
Beginning on September 29th, the Wildcats will welcome back their alumni for a scrimmage at 11 a.m. on Pike Field at Villanova University.
Following the annual event on September 29th, the Wildcats will participate in the Nicholas Colleluori Women's Lacrosse Classic held at James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. on Sunday, September 30th. The Wildcats will compete with over 15 collegiate programs from across the country in the annual tournament dedicated to increasing awareness for the fight against blood cancer. To date, the event has successfully generated over $105,000 for the HEADstrong Foundation since its inception.
On Saturday, October 6th, Villanova will make the short trek to Downingtown, Pa. to participate in the Fall Classic Tournament at United Sports Downingtown. Participating teams include perennial national powerhouses Bucknell, Duke, Lehigh, St. Francis, Temple, Lock Haven, Kutztown, Shippensburg, Messiah, Salisbury, Stevens Tech and the Haudenosaunee Nations Women's Lacrosse team. The two-day event spans NCAA Divisions I, II and III and will feature some of the top teams in collegiate women's lacrosse.
Just a day later on Sunday, October 7th, the Wildcats will head to Temple University for the 6th annual Philly 5 Tournament at Geasey Field. Game times are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and features the top lacrosse talent in the area including teams from St. Joseph's, La Salle, Temple, Drexel and Villanova.
Rounding out the fall season, Villanova will scrimmage Delaware on Saturday, October 13th and Monmouth on Saturday, October 27th for the conclusion of the fall season. Both scrimmages are slated at the opposing institutions in Newark, Del. and West Long Branch, N.J., respectively.
The Wildcats are coming off a 4-12 overall record in 2012 including a 2-6 result in the BIG EAST. Second year Head Coach Julie Young looks to improve upon that record moving into the 2013 season with the addition of 15 freshmen to the roster.
