VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team is back on the field in preparation for the 2014 season, and will participate in a number of events this fall, including the annual Alumni Game and three tournaments.
On Sept. 28, the Wildcats will participate in the fifth annual Nicholas Colleluori Women's Classic at James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. Villanova will compete with 10 other collegiate teams in the tournament dedicated to increasing awareness and funds for the fight against blood cancer. Since its inception in 2008, the event has raised more than $200,000 for the cause.
On Oct. 12, the Wildcats travel to Princeton, N.J., to compete in the Princeton Fall Round Robin. The annual tournament features multiple collegiate teams playing 50 minutes games with 25-minute running clock halves.
The Wildcats will welcome back their alumni for a scrimmage at on Pike Field at Villanova University on Oct. 25.
The Wildcats finish their fall schedule with the seventh annual Philly 5 Showcase at Geasey Field on Oct. 27. The event features local talent with teams from St. Joseph's, La Salle, Temple, Drexel and Villanova. In addition to current squads playing, alumni from each program will also face off against one another.
The Wildcats are coming off a 6-10 campaign in 2013, including a 1-7 record in BIG EAST play. Head coach Julie Young is in her third year with the program. The team welcomes 11 freshmen to Villanova this year, while the 16 sophomores, eight juniors and nine seniors will provide great leadership and experience.
