VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats women's lacrosse program has greeted a class of seven incoming freshmen who are expected to make significant contributions to the 2010 Wildcats squad, which will compete in the BIG EAST Conference for the first time.

"We're very excited about this class," stated head coach Jebb Chagan.

The seven new arrivals bolster a club that won eight games in 2009, the most in a season at Villanova since 2002. The incoming crop features a goalie, a pair of midfielders, an attacker and three defenders.

The class includes:

Sarah Moody

Defense

Burke, Va./Robinson High School

"Sarah is an extremely talented and hardworking player," says Chagan. "She should compete for playing time right away. We expect her to be a force on the defensive side of the ball. We are very excited to have Sarah here at Villanova."

Annie Fallon

Midfield

Shrewsbury, N.J., N.J./Red Bank Catholic High School

"This is a very athletic player with tremendous potential," states Chagan. "This talented young lady will look to earn time at the midfield position. We are very excited about having Annie here at Villanova."

Maria Bowman

Midfield/Attack Ft. Belovoir, Va./Bishop Ireton High School

"Maria finishes very well around the goal," notes Chagan. "We are looking for Maria to have an immediate impact at Villanova. Both her speed and tenacity will be great assets to our program. We are very happy to have Maria as part of our program."

Julie Lull

Defense

Rochester, N.Y./Brighton High School

"Julie is a very hardworking and coachable young lady who will be a nice addition to the program here at Villanova," states Chagan. "Julie will compete on the defensive side of the ball."

Shawna Giust

Defesne

Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge High School

"Shawna is a very gifted young lady and athlete who works extremely hard both on and off the field," states Chagan. "We look for her to be a force on the draw circle and compete for time on the defensive half of the field. We are excited that Shawna will be wearing blue and white."

Amanda Hirschfeld

Goalie

Timonium, Md./Roland Parks Country School

"Amanda is an imposing force in the cage," explains Chagan. "We look for Amanda to compete for time in cage as a freshmen. She is a very talented and coachable young lady whom we expect to be a difference maker as a Wildcat."

Shannon Lane

Attack

Annapolis, Md.,/Severn School

"This is a player who loves to contribute in and around the cage," says Chagan. "Shannon does a great job both finishing on goal as well as setting up her teammates. We are looking forward to witnessing Shannon's hard work both on and off the field."
