PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Women's Lacrosse sophomore midfielder Chelsey Henderson (West Long Branch, N.J.) has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team, as announced on Friday afternoon.
To be considered for the Academic All-Area Team, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.20 GPA and be a starter or significant reserve. The team comprises of student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions and is voted on by the sports information directors at the 28 colleges and universities in the metro area.
Henderson has been an impact player for the Wildcats since her arrival on the Main Line and in just two years has helped Villanova return to prominence in the BIG EAST. In 2014, Henderson earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team and registered 19 goals and 15 assists for 34 points. Additionally, the sophomore led the team with 36 ground balls, 40 draw controls and notched seven free-position scores on the season. For her career, Henderson has started 30 of 31 games and has tallied 35 goals and 22 assists for 57 career points. On the defensive end, she's collected 55 ground balls, caused 29 turnovers and notched 65 draw controls.
Off the field, Henderson has a cumulative GPA of 3.86 as an accounting major with a minor in finance from the Villanova School of Business.
Henderson is joined on the all-area team with Caitlyn Brostrand (La Salle), Kelly Campbell (Chestnut Hill), Jordyn Dunacusky (Arcadia), Lucy Ferguson (Penn), Erin Janzekovich (Gwynedd-Mercy), Jaqi Kakalecik (Temple), Kelly Lapp (Immaculata), Meg Markham (Penn), Haylee Molloy (Arcadia), Libby Nichols (Philadelphia U.) and Melissa Scanzano (Cabrini).
