OPENING DRAW: After a heartbreaking last second loss to UConn last Saturday, the Villanova Wildcats will wrap-up the 2017 season on the road against new BIG EAST foe Butler in Indianapolis. The opening draw between the Wildcats and Bulldogs is set for 11 a.m. at Varsity Field.
LAST TIME OUT: Sophomore attack Jillian Swikart registered her fourth goal the game with just 17 seconds left in the second half to tie the game at 14-14, but UConn drove down the field and capitalized after a Villanova foul to win the BIG EAST Conference game in the final second 15-14 last Saturday at Villanova Stadium.
SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's meeting marks the first-ever meeting between Villanova and Butler. 2017 is the first season that Butler has sponsored a varsity lacrosse team. The Bulldogs are 1-15 on the season, with their lone win coming against Gardner Webb 16-13 on March 8.
SENSATIONAL SAM: Senior Sam Scarfogliero will play her final game of her Wildcat career on Saturday against Butler. The Setauket, N.Y. native etched her name in Villanova's record book this season as the all-time leader in caused turnovers with 69 in her career. She recently broke her own single-season record for caused turnovers in a season and currently has 32 in 2017. Scarfogliero ranks 13th nationally in ground balls per game (3.40) and 21st in caused turnovers per game (2.13). She leads the BIG EAST in both categories.
BUILT `FORD TOUGH: With three points in Saturday's game, freshman Katie Comerford will crack the Villanova's top-10 for most points in a single season. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y. product has exactly 50 points in 2017 (37 g, 13 a) and ranks seventh nationally among freshmen in goals per game this season. In Villanova's last three games, the three-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week has combined for 11 points on 10 goals and an assist.
FRESHMEN SIX: The freshmen class has been a force offensively this season, as six of the top nine Villanova leaders in points are rookies. The Class of 2020 has combined for 134 of Villanova's 214 points this season (63 percent). The Class of 2020 has earned a total of five BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors on the season -- tied with Cincinnati for the most in the BIG EAST.
FREE POSITION SUCCESS: Villanova has made the most of its' free position opportunities on the season, ranking 16th nationally in free position shot percentage. Both Comerford and Kim McDonough have converted 8 of 13 opportunities on the season.
A LOOK AT BUTLER'S OFFENSE: Three Bulldogs have at least 15 goals on the season, led by Haley Hallenbeck. Journey Fischbeck can score and dish out assists, leading the team with 30 points on the season.
A LOOK AT BUTLER'S DEFENSE: Hallenbeck also excels defensively, causing 16 turnovers and has the most ground balls and draw controls on the team. In between the pipes, Allie Storke and Haley Rayburn have split an even amount of time in net. Allie Storke was credited with the win against Gardener-Webb.
