VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team (8-7, 3-3 BIG EAST) closes out the regular season with a trip to Connecticut (9-6, 4-2) Saturday at 1 p.m. in Storrs, Conn. The game will be broadcast nationally on Fox Sports 2.
The Wildcats defeated Marquette, 10-9, in their last game. Sophomore midfielder Chelsey Henderson recorded three goals and an assist while also notching four ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Henderson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her balanced performance.
The Wildcats are still fighting for a spot in the BIG EAST Championship. If Rutgers defeats Temple tonight at 7 p.m. and Villanova beats UConn tomorrow, the Wildcats will be the No. 3 seed in the championship.
Villanova is set to finish the regular season with its best record since Julie Young became head coach. If the Wildcats beat the Huskies, they would finish with a winning record for the first time since 2002. If Villanova loses to UConn, the Wildcats would finish at .500 for the first time since 2010.
The Huskies hold a 5-0 series advantage against the Wildcats. The teams battled last season as UConn took a 12-11 win in overtime at Villanova.
