Meghan Carolan Named Patriot League Player of the Week
April 22, 2002 VILLANOVA, Pa. --- On Monday, April 22, the Patriot League announced that Villanova junior Meghan Carolan (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week. Carolan earned the award for the first time this season and has led the Wildcats to an 8-7 season including a 4-2 mark in league play. Carolan picked up the award after contributing six points on six goals, 11 draw controls and five ground balls in two matches last week. Her big outing came in a 10-6 win over Bucknell when she scored five goals and added eight draw controls and four ground balls for the Wildcats. In that victory, Carolan became only the fifth player in Villanova history to surpass 40 goals in a season. Statistically, Carolan's 3.71 points per game average, 2.86 goals per game average and 2.79 draw percentage average leads all Patriot League players. Through games as of April 14, Carolan ranked 16th in Division I NCAA women's lacrosse with 2.83 goals per game and 22nd with 3.83 points per game.
The Wildcats will get back into action on Thursday, April 25 when they host Drexel in their last regular season game of the year. Following the non-conference match-up, Villanova will travel to Easton, Pa. on Saturday, April 27 to take on American in the semi-final round of the Patriot League tournament beginning at 1:00 p.m
