Villanova Heads to Midwest to Face Marquette, No. 7 Notre Dame

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team (4-3) begins BIG EAST action this weekend when they travel to the Midwest to take on Marquette and No. 7 Notre Dame for a pair of matches this Friday and Sunday. Game time versus the Golden Eagles is slated for 6 p.m. ET on March 22nd while the Wildcats will meet the Fighting Irish at 1 p.m. on March 24th.
Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter this weekend with a 4-3 overall record after posting an 11-7 victory over Davidson last weekend. Sophomore Jessica Mucci (Severna Park, Md.) posted a career-high eight points to lead Villanova while classmate Jackie Froccaro (Sands Point, N.Y.) contributed a hat trick alongside Mucci as seven Wildcats posted points on the day. On the year, Villanova has posted wins over Central Connecticut (W, 11-8), Mt. St. Mary's (W, 16-7), Columbia (W, 16-7) and Davidson (W, 11-7). Losses on the year have come by the hands of Lehigh (L, 10-9), Princeton (L, 10-5) and Drexel (L, 14-10).
`Nova vs. Marquette: Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Golden Eagles and Wildcats. As a first-year program, Marquette will spend the 2013 season as an independent before joining the BIG EAST for the 2014 season.
A Look at Marquette: The Golden Eagles bring a 2-6 overall record into Friday's matchup. MU has captured wins over Coastal Carolina (W, 12-11 2OT) and Detroit (W, 11-10). Losses on the year have come from Winthrop (L, 17-7), Duquesne (L, 11-7), St. Mary's College (L, 16-7), San Diego State (L, 19-5), USC (L, 12-9) and Harvard (L, 18-4).
Claire Constanza leads the team with 23 points via eight goals and 15 assists and is followed closely behind by Kenzie Brown with 15 goals and three assists. Sarah Priem has been the primary starter in net and owns a 2-6 record on the season with a 14.09 GAA and a .375 save percentage.
`Nova vs. Notre Dame: Sunday will mark just the fourth overall meeting between Villanova and Notre Dame with the Fighting Irish holding the upper hand in the all-time series at 3-0. The conference opponents met for the first time in 2010 for the start of the BIG EAST Lacrosse conference.
A Look at Notre Dame: 7th-ranked Notre Dame brings a flawless 6-0 record into Sunday's contest. The Fighting Irish have captured wins over Stanford (W, 12-10), Ohio State (W, 13-8), Duquesne (W, 10-8), Detroit (W, 22-1), Boston (W, 16-11) and Vanderbilt (W, 12-11).
Jaimi Morrison leads the team with 21 points via 13 goals and eight assists while Jenny Granger follows closely behind with 12 goals and seven assists. Ellie Hilling has been the primary starter in goal and owns a 6-0 record on the season with a 8.41 GAA and a .422 save percentage.
