VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team (0-2) hosts Central Connecticut State (0-2) for their 2013 home opener on Saturday, March 2nd. Game time is slated for Noon as both teams look for their first season wins at Villanova Stadium.

Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter this weekend with a 0-2 record after falling 10-5 to Princeton last Saturday. The Wildcats held the Tigers to just three first half goals despite Princeton holding a 15-6 advantage in shots for the starting 30 minutes of play. Villanova also fell in their first game of the season to Lehigh, 10-9.
As of the latest IWLCA Coaches and deBeer/Inside Lacrosse Media Polls released on Monday, February 25th, Villanova has scheduled four ranked opponents on their calendar this season: No. 5 Syracuse, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 9 Loyola and No. 10 Georgetown.
`Nova Offense: Sophomore Jackie Froccaro (Sands Point, N.Y.) leads the Villanova attack with six points via six goals while classmate Jessica Mucci (Severna Park, Md.), senior Annie Fallon (Shrewsbury, N.J.) and freshman Shannon Galvin (Maplewood, N.J.) follow closely behind with three points each. Junior Ali Judge (Annapolis, Md.), senior Maria Bowman (Ijamsville, Md.) and freshman Kelsey Denihan (Manhasset, N.Y.) have also posted points on the season through two games.
Galvin leads the team with five draw controls on the year while senior Shawna Giust (Basking Ridge, N.J.) has taken four on the season. As a team, Villanova has combined for 18 draws through two games.
`Nova Defense: Defensively, Sarah Moody (Burke, Va.), Lauren Shockley (Newtown, Pa.), Amy Begay (Forest Hill, Md.) and Giust have been the starting four in the Villanova backfield and have combined for five ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior Amanda Hirschfeld (Timonium, Md.) and junior Julia Todd (Boston, Mass.) have split starting roles in goal for the season, with Hirschfeld minding the net for the most recent contest against Princeton. Senior Dani Wiedmeier (Westlake, Ohio) has also seen action behind the pipes as the trio has combined for a 10.00 GAA, 13 saves and a .393 save percentage.
A Look at CCSU: Central Connecticut brings a 0-2 record into Saturday's showdown with the Wildcats. The Blue Devils are coming off a 19-3 defeat to No. 18 Stony Brook on Wednesday evening and also fell in their season opener to Lafayette, 11-10.
Blue Devil Offense: Central Connecticut averages 6.50 goals per game on offense and surrenders 15.00 goals per game defensively. Betsy Vendel (4g, 1a) and Mackenzy Ryan (3g, 2a) lead the team with five points apiece for the season while Meaghan McCurry (4g, 0a) follows closely behind in third place with four points through two games.
Blue Devil Defense: Sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Tullar has been the mainstay in net for the Blue Devils, playing all 120 minutes for CCSU while making 22 saves and posting a 15.00 GAA. Tullar's save percentage currently stands at .423 after facing 73 shots. On defense, Caitlin Karner, Ali Roche, Ashley Olhausen and Cierra Ward have combined for 12 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers through two games.
The Last Meeting (2/22/09): Villanova (1-0) opened their 2009 season at Villanova Stadium against Central Connecticut State Sunday. Led by senior Taryn McKenna's (Dix Hills, N.Y.) five goals and two assists, the Wildcats won 13-5.
