PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Impressive season-opening wins helped Villanova and Loyola capture the first BIG EAST women's lacrosse weekly awards. Villanova junior Justine Donodeo earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Loyola junior Kerry Stoothoff was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
Donodeo had seven points, with four goals and three assists in a 1-0 week. In a 16-8 win over Bryant, the junior helped the team get off to an undefeated start as she scored four goals in the first half. Donodeo is the first Villanova player to earn BIG EAST women's lacrosse Player of the Week honors. The Wildcats are in their second year of BIG EAST competition.
Stoothoff earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades for her performance in a 15-8 win over then-No. 7/7 Virginia on Feb. 19. The junior made eight saves and picked up a team-leading three ground balls. Stoothoff also helped hold Virginia to 0-4 on free-position shots.
Next up for the Wildcats (1-0) is a Saturday afternoon matchup with Boston College at Villanova Stadium.
