VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats completed an impressive tune-up for the 2009 regular season at the prestigious South of the Border Tournament over the weekend of Feb. 7-8. The `Cats took three of four scrimmages and left the coaching staff very encouraged about the upcoming campaign.

"We were really excited to be given the opportunity to compete in such a highly respected national pre-season tournament," stated head coach Jebb Chagan. "The coaching staff was certainly excited with the end result. More importantly, however, was how we went about it. Our players worked tremendously hard, we had contributions from players in all four class years and the togetherness and composure our kids displayed was awesome."

Villanova defeated Limestone 7-4, earning eight draw controls to Limestone's five. Cassie Eure made three saves in net for Villanova.

Goalie Maggie Langan helped key a 6-4 victory over Connecticut with four saves in another matchup.

Longwood University handed the Wildcats their only loss by the count of 9-6. But VU bounced back with a 10-5 win over Haudenosaunee Nation.

"I am really proud of the efforts and hard work that all of those associated with the Women's Lacrosse Program have put forth," noted Chagan. "That includes administrators, training staff, coaches, strength and conditioning and equipment personnel. They have all worked hard to put us in a real position to be successful this season".
