VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Louisville Cardinals rushed out to a 12-5 halftime lead and went on to a 19-6 victory over Villanova in the final regular season BIG EAST contest of the campaign for both squads. Louisville improved to 11-6 overall, 4-4 in the BIG EAST while the Wildcats completed their season at 8-8 overall, 1-7 in conference action.

The Wildcats honored seniors Sarah Berger, Cassie Eure, Alyssa Mahoney, Samantha McKillip, Kyler O'Shea and Erica Rybinski in pre-game ceremonies as the group participated in its final home game as collegians.

Louisville scored the game's first four goals in just under four minutes to claim the early edge. Bergan Foley netted two of the four goals while Kathy Oliverio chipped in with a goal and two assists in the opening stretch.

Sophomore Justine Donodeo got the `Cats on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 25:34 before Oliverio responded with a goal for U of L. Junior Rachel Lasda scored the Wildcats' second goal of the afternoon at 21:49 to cut the gap to 5-2.

Louisville scored the next two goals to extend the lead to 7-2 before Rybinski scored off a feed from Donodeo to narrow the deficit to 7-3. But Louisville scored the next two to move out to a 9-3 lead and was in control the rest of the day.

Foley paced the Cardinals with seven goals on the day while Liz Lovejoy added four goals. Donodeo and junior Carly Miller led the Wildcats with two goals each.

 

 

Eure made her first career start in goal for Villanova and made six saves before giving way to junior Maggie Langan early in the second half.

Louisville outshot the Wildcats 32-21 and owned a 19-13 advantage in ground balls.

Villanova finishes the season with an 8-8 record for the second consecutive season.
