Rutgers Defeats Wildcats in Women's Lacrosse Season Finale

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcat women's lacrosse team was defeated by the No. 15 Rutgers University Scarlet Knights, 18-7, at Villanova Stadium on Sunday, April 26. The Wildcats finish the season with a 4-12 record, while the Scarlet Knights improve to 11-4.
Rutgers started off the game with a fast pace, scoring four of its 10 first half goals in the first four minutes. The Scarlet Knights were led by senior Dina Cavallo who scored two of her three goals in the first half to go along with one assist.
After two Meghan Doyle goals cut the Scarlet Knights' lead to 8-5, Rutgers scored two goals in the final 5:05 to take a 10-5 lead into intermission.
Despite one goal apiece from junior Sarah Gilhorn and freshman Terri Overturf, Rutgers proved too strong. Senior Joanna Tewfik added two second half goals to help the Scarlet Knights cruise on to a 18-7 victory.
With her three goals on the afternoon, Wildcat junior Meghan Doyle broke the Villanova record for most goals in a single season. Doyle's 51 goals this season replaces the old mark of 49 set by Leigh Ann Leone in 1993.
