Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Villanova women's lacrosse (3-14, 0-6 Patriot League) dropped its final game of the 2006 season to the St. Joe's Hawks (5-9, 1-4 A-10), 14-8, Tuesday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa. The Wildcats kept it tied for the first fifteen minutes as the teams traded goals. Down by two at the half, Villanova was unable to overcome three goals by Kerry O'Connell Christina Colangelo each in the second stanza.

Saint Joseph's found the net first, but junior Christina Bahrs (Oceanport, N.J.) quickly answered. Colangelo then scored her first of four goals but again Bahrs had a retort. Stevie McFadden (Reisterstown, Md.) put the `Cats ahead off of a free position shot to go up at 20:34. The Hawks sailed two more past goalkeeper, Jessica Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.), giving St. Joe's the advantage.

Kathleen Kelly (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Taylor Lucy (Ocean View, Del.) each got into the act to go up 5-4, but again, St. Joe's came back. O'Connell scored two of her five goals in a two minute span and another by Jenny Egan put St. Joe's up by two with eleven minutes to go. Villanova then buckled down and allowed only one more goal before the break as captain Becky Gardner (Centerport, N.Y.) found the back of the net to make it 8-6 at the half.

St. Joe's started the second half by going on a 5-0 run that consisted of goals by O'Connell and Colangelo making the score 13-6. Lucy and Cindy Koza (Thornton, Pa.) were both able to score off of passes from Kelly, but the lead was insurmountable. St. Joe's scored one more goal in the last four minutes to make the final 14-8.

Brozena had the loss with six saves and Sarah Magan took the win tallying eight stops. Despite the loss, Villanova was outshot by just one and had fewer turnovers. Lucy and Bahrs led the way with two goals each and Kelly helped out notching one goal and three assists.

The Wildcats will say goodbye to three seniors, but the young team will return all four of its top scorers scorers in 2007.
