EMMITSBURG, Md. - Katelyn Catanese (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored five goals to lead Mount St. Mary's past Villanova 12-7 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday.

Villanova falls to 6-8 on the season with a pair of road games upcoming this week against Delaware and St. Francis (Pa.) to wrap up the regular season.

Catanese, the current NEC Player of the Week, posted three goals in the first half and then found the twine two times in the second stanza. The sophomore posted five markers in a game for the third time this season and now leads the squad with 47 tallies.

Casey Paris (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) notched her 27th career hat trick along with an assist for the Mountaineers while Katie Falatach (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) tallied two goals and two assists in the winning effort.

Taryn McKenna and Stevie McFadden each posted two goals to lead the Wildcats, and Erica Rybinski chipped in a goal and an assist in the loss.

The two teams came out of halftime tied at 6 before Mount St. Mary's outscored Villanova 6-1 in the final frame for its second-straight win against the Wildcats.

Jenna Duffy (Bel Air, Md./Catholic) helped give the Mount the lead for good when she set up Paris at 34:17 before she set up Catanese's fourth score of the afternoon at 39:22. With the helper to Catanese, Duffy tied Nicole Di'Angelo's (25, 2005) single-season assists record.

McKenna cut the deficit to 8-7 on an unassisted marker at 40:06.

The Mountaineers then rolled off the final four goals to come away with the 12-7 win. Falatach feed Catanese at 44:36 to start the final surge before Paris found the twine unassisted at 46:52 for a 10-7 margin. After Falatach scored off a feed from Kathleen Rossetti (Havre de Grace, Md./Perry Hall) at the 51:18 mark, A.J. Johnson (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) capped the regular-season finale win with her 12th marker of the year with 2:33 remaining.

 

 

The first half was a seesaw battle that ended in a 6-all standstill. Paris hooked up with Catanese in the first 28 seconds to give Mount St. Mary's a 1-0 edge.

Villanova answered with two-straight goals to grab a 2-1 advantage. Samantha McKillip converted a free-position attempt at 3:27 before Shannon Sullivan set up McFadden's first tally of the day at 5:29.

The Mount responded with two-consecutive scores of its own to regain a one-goal margin. After Paris knotted the match at 2 at 5:31, Falatach found the back of the cage at 8:09 for a 3-2 advantage.

Rybinski tied the game at 3 on an unassisted tally at 14:36 before Catanese posted back-to-back scores on an 8-meter goal and a marker set up by Falatach at 15:38 and 21:13, respectively for a 5-3 edge.

McKenna and Breana Waraksa (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) traded tallies at 24:20 and 27:33, but Villanova closed the half with two goals in the final two minutes to go into the intermission tied at 6. McFadden notched her second goal of the day at 28:15 and Rybinski feed Meg Wallace with 22 ticks on the clock for the tying score.

Jane Karger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) made eight saves for Mount St. Mary's while Jessica Brozena had 12 stops for Villanova.
