VILLANOVA, Pa. - On Tuesday, April 14, the Villanova Wildcats, led by junior co-captain Meghan Doyle's seven goal effort, defeated the visiting Drexel Dragons, 17-13, at Villanova Stadium, and snapped their six-game losing streak. The Wildcats improve to 3-9, while the Dragons fall to 1-9.

Drexel jumped out to an early two goal lead just 0:59 into the contest, after sophomore Kathy Emrich and junior Elena Flannery each beat Villanova net-minder Cara Walsh (2 saves, 6 GA). The Wildcats tied the game at 2-2 at the 22:27 mark of the first half, after Doyle scored her first two goals.

The Dragons regained the lead, 6-4, with 18:11 remaining in the first half, but Villanova exploded for nine consecutive goals before the half ended giving the Wildcats a 13-6 lead. During the 9-0 run five different Villanova players scored, led by Doyle's three goals. Junior Katie Monahan and freshman Liz Kenny each added two goals apiece during the stretch.

Drexel attempted a comeback in the second half and cut Villanova's lead to 14-11 as Julie Carney beat Villanova's goalie, Julie Pinnix (10 saves, 7 GA) with 11:45 remaining in the game. Villanova responded by controlling the tempo of the game and scored three consecutive goals to increase their lead to 17-11 with 4:26 left to play.

Doyle, a Cockeysville, Md. native, finished the day with nine points (seven goals, 2 assists) bringing her season total to 44 points (35 goals, nine assists).

Kenny, a Newtown Square, Pa. native, continued to be on fire and finished with five points (three goals, two assists). Kenny has recorded eight points (six goals, two assists) in the last two games.

On Saturday, April 18, the Wildcats host Davidson at Villanova Stadium at 3 pm.
