Women's Lacrosse Falls to Hofstra
April 6, 1999
VILLANOVA, Pa. - Four goals in the game's first 13 minutes staked Hofstra to a 4-0 advantage it never relinquished as the Flying Dutchwomen defeated Villanova 13-7 on Tuesday afternoon here. Senior Heather Kain scored five goals and added an assist for the winners while Meghan Doyle (Cockeysville, Md.) tallied six goals for the Wildcats.
Hofstra struck just 28 seconds into the contest on a Kelly Dodson score set up by Kathleen McPike. That was followed by a Kristin Marshall goal at the 26:11 mark and a pair of scores by Kain.
Doyle broke into the scoring column with two goals in 37 seconds with just over eight minutes left in the first half. A Cecily Pierce (New Canaan, Conn.) goal pulled the Wildcats to within one at 4-3 but Hofstra scored three times before intermission to give the Flying Dutchwomen a 7-3 edge at the break.
Villanova got the first goal of the second half, this one from Doyle, to close the gap to three. But consecutive scores by McPike restored Hofstra's cushion. The Flying Dutchwomen were then able to stave off the Wildcats for a 13-7 victory.
The win leaves Hofstra with a 2-7 record while Villanova falls to 3-6, 1-2 in the Patriot League.
The Wildcats get the chance to rebound quickly as they face Lafayette in a 4:00 p.m. game Thursday at Villanova Stadium.
