VILLANOVA, Pa. - Mount St. Mary's (8-5) used a 10-goal second half to break open a deadlocked contest and went on to post a 15-9 victory over Villanova (3-8) in a contest staged on a damp, cold afternoon at Villanova Stadium.

The Wildcats jumped out to a fast start, scoring three of the game's first four goals in the contest's first 15 minutes. Junior Taylor Lucy opened the scoring for Villanova at 27:20 when she converted a free position shot. After an Ashley Johnson goal knotted matters, seniors Stevie McFadden and Amanda Carlson each picked up a goal to give VU a 3-1 lead with 15:36 left in the first half.

The two teams traded goals over the next 12 minutes before the Mount closed the gap with a pair of scores in the final 1:32 of the period. Rebecca Douglass scored off a feed from Breana Waraksa with 92 seconds left and Katelyn Catanese found the back of the net with 30 seconds left in the half to tie the contest at five at the break.

The two teams each scored in the first four minutes of the second half to keep the game tied, this time at six. But then the Mount began to take charge. Douglass and Catanese pushed the lead to 8-6 before Lucy narrowed the gap to 8-7 with 18:17 left in regulation. The Mount then reeled off five goals in a row, the last two coming off the stick of Catanese, to build a 13-7 advantage.

Freshman Nora Wallace and junior Taryn McKenna scored Villanova's final two goals of the afternoon while Kathleen Rossetti and Kelly Taylor rounded out the scoring for Mount St. Mary's.

Catanese ended the afternoon with five goals and three assists for the Mount. Lucy, McFadden and Ponge each scored two goals apiece for Villanova.

Jane Karger made eight saves in net for the Mount in picking up the victory. Villanova's Maggie Langan recorded 10 saves before giving way to Cassie Eure in the second half.
