PHILADELPHIA - Three Wildcats scored hat tricks but the Villanova women's lacrosse team (6-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) fell to Temple (4-7, 1-1) Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore attacks Meghan Breen and Kelsey Denihan and junior midfielder Hannah Goforth tallied three goals in the contest. Breen scored her team-leading 20th goal of the season in the contest.

The Owls scored two goals in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the game before Goforth got the Wildcats on the scoreboard at 24:17. Temple took a 3-1 lead two minutes later.

The Villanova offense took off as Goforth and Denihan combined for four straight Wildcat goals. Sophomore midfielder and junior attack Jessica Mucci each earned two assists in the scoring streak as Villanova took a 5-3 lead at 11:50.

Temple responded with four goals of its own to finish the half up 7-5.

Freshman midfielder Becca Hetrick tallied a goal three minutes into the second half, and Breen tied the game at 25:50.

The Owls and Wildcats continued to trade pairs of goals. After two Temple tallies, Breen scored twice within two minutes and tied the game again at nine. The Owls added two free position goals and took an 11-9 lead at 8:25.

Denihan added one more goal for Villanova at 5:18, but Temple's Jaymie Tabor scored her fourth goal of the game at 4:36. The Wildcats were unable to add any offense and fell, 12-10.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jaclyn Fraum made five saves.

Temple led in shots, 25-21, and in ground balls, 18-11. The teams were tied at 12 each in draw controls.



The Wildcats return home to Villanova Stadium next Friday at 4 p.m. to host Cincinnati.
