Final Stats

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Sophomore Amanda Keegan scored the only goal of overtime on a free position shot to lift Le Moyne (3-2 overall, 0-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) to a 12-11 victory over Villanova (0-8 overall, 0-3 Patriot League) in a non-conference game played at Villanova Stadium this afternoon.

This was a tightly contested battle throughout. Goals from freshman Kathleen Kelly (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Cindy Koza (Thornton, Pa.) staked the Wildcats to an early 2-0 advantage. But after a LeMoyne timeout, the Dolphins responded with goals from Keegan and Megan Keddy to tie the contest at two.

The game seesawed back and forth the rest of the afternoon.

Le Moyne got a goal from Kylie Rossette off a feed from Ashlyn Maguire to break a 4-4 tie with 2:14 remaining in the first half and took that one goal advantage into intermission.

Villanova carried play early in the second half, however, scoring three goals in less than two minutes (Kelly, Amy Rocap and Becky Gardner scored). But LeM oyne never let the Wildcats create any space and Rosette's goal at 22:36 tied the contest at seven.

The Dolphins picked up three consecutive goals midway through the half to build a 10-7 advantage. However, the Wildcats reeled off the next three goals, including a pair from freshman Alex Garvey (Summit, N.J.) and another from Becky Gardner (Centerport, N.Y.) to even the game at 10 with 4:19 left in regulation. Gardner then scored again at the 3:38 mark to lift Villanova into an 11-10 lead. Le Moyne got the equalizer, though, with 1:33 left in regulation when Whitney Vecchio fired a shot into the net.

Keegan's game-winner came at the 2:05 mark of the first overtime session. She was awarded a free position shot directly in front of the net and converted the opportunity into a score. The Dolphins controlled the draw at the start of the second overtime session and ran out the clock.

Kelly, Garvey, and Gardner each scored three goals on the day for the Wildcats. Maguire had two goals and an assist for the Dolphins, who also got two goals from Vecchio, Keegan and Keddy. Samantha Falcone had 18 saves in net for Le Moyne while Jessica Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.) was credited with nine saves on the afternoon.
