March 28, 1998

EASTON, Pa. - Traveling to Lafayette on Saturday, March 28, in attempt to bring their record to the .500 mark, the Villanova women's lacrosse team was denied by the Leopards, losing 11-4. With the loss, the Wildcats record fell to 2-4 on the season.

Lafayette got on the board just 24 seconds into the contest as Kirt Blakeman fed Kellee Salber for a backhanded goal. The Leopards ripped off five consecutive goals, including three by Dana DiRenzo to take a quick 6-0 advantage.

Lafayette led 8-1 at the half and on two goals by Erin Murphy extended their lead to 10-1, before Wildcat point leader Meghan Doyle cut into the lead with a goal. Doyle tried to lead a valiant Villanova comeback attempt as she tallied two goals and one assist, but the rally fell short as the Leopards went on to an 11-4 victory. Senior Maria McCusker also had an outstanding day for the Wildcats, posting two goals.

Villanova will travel to Lehigh next, to faceoff on Tuesday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m.
