March 26, 1999

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats scored a first on Thursday, gaining their initial victory in the Patriot League. The 1999 season marks Villanova's first as a member of the Bethlehem, Pa., based league and a 10-7 victory at Bucknell squared VU's league record at 1-1 and pushed its overall mark to 3-2.

Senior midfielder Meghan Doyle tallied three goals that helped the Wildcats build a 7-5 halftime advantage. Also scoring in the first half for Villanova were sophomore Liz Kenny (two) and freshman Sarah Judge.

The Wildcats discouraged any thoughts of a Bison rally by delivering the next two goals. Sophomore Teri Overturf scored on a feed from Kenny and freshman Cecily Pierce recorded an unassisted goal. Doyle iced matters with an unassisted goal with 4:37 remaining in the contest.

Senior Sarah Gilhorn, in only her fifth career start in goal, contributed another strong outing in net for the Wildcats. Gilhorn stopped 10 Bucknell shots.

Heidi Hammes and Liz Murphy each scored two goals in defeat for the Bison. The loss leaves Bucknell with a 1-2 record, 0-1 in the Patriot League.

Villanova returns to action on Saturday, March 27, in a 1:00 p.m. game to be played at Villanova Stadium against Monmouth College.
