VILLANOVA, Pa - On Thursday, March 26, the Villanova Wildcats, despite a five goal effort by junior, co-captain Meghan Doyle, were defeated by the visiting West Chester Rams, 17-10, at Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats' records drops to 2-4, while the Rams improved to 3-1.
West Chester grabbed an early one goal lead as junior Teri Minzola beat Villanova net-minder Julie Pinnix (15 saves) 3:30 into the half. The Wildcats evened the score 1:28 later when senior, co-captain Chrissy Burke beat the West Chester goalie Heather Vearling (21 saves). The Rams charged and scored eight consecutive goals taking hold of a 9-1 lead with 3:08 remaining in the half. West Chester's Kim Rochon, a freshman, scored three of her five goals during the Rams' 8-0 run. Villanova managed to cut West Chester's lead to 9-3 when Doyle scored two of her five goals before the conclusion of the first half.
The Wildcats came out strong in the second half as Doyle scored two goals within the first 0:53 of the half. Villanova was able to cut the West Chester lead to three goals (10-7) with 19:27 remaining in the contest, but the Rams refused to give up their lead. Minzolla scored four second half goals, including the game-winner, and finished the day with a game-high eight points (seven goals, one assist), to lead the Rams to victory.
Doyle, a Cockeysville, Md., native, led the Wildcats with seven points (five goals, two assists) in the losing effort. In the last two games, Doyle has tallied 15 points (12 goals, three assists) and currently leads Villanova in scoring with 27 points (21 goals, six assists).
On Saturday afternoon, at 1pm, the Wildcats travel to Easton, Pa., to face-off against the Lafayette Leopards.
