ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Taryn McKenna scored seven goals, including two in overtime, to help lift Villanova (3-6 overall) to a 15-14 victory over Navy in a women's lacrosse game played here on Tuesday night.
McKenna scored the Wildcats first two goals of the contest and helped the Wildcats remain close to Navy even after a three goal spurt near the end of the first half gave the service academy a 7-5 lead at intermission. But Villanova persevered even after the Naval Academy scored two of the first three goals following halftime to take a 9-6 lead.
Senior Taylor Lucy took a feed from Mia Naccarato to pull the Wildcats within 9-7 before a McKenna goal at 17:46 pulled the `Cats within one. After another Navy score, sophomore Carly Miller scored consecutive goals for VU, the second off a pass from Erica Rybinski to tie the game at 10.
Navy went ahead 11-10 on an Erin Rawlick goal before McKenna answered. After a Navy goal made it 12-11, senior Katie Stone scored an unassisted goal with one minute left in regulation to knot the contest and force overtime.
The Middies scored first in the three minute extra session before Rybinski scored for the Wildcats. A pair of McKenna goals gave Villanova enough cushion to withstand a final Navy goal scored with 53 seconds left and earn their second consecutive victory.
Maggie Langan made nine saves in goal for the Wildcats.
Villanova visits LeMoyne this Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in its next action.
