WASHINGTON, D.C. - After a 10-day break, the Villanova women's lacrosse team (1-4) returned to action at George Washington on Wednesday evening. The Wildcats played a tough contest, but fell just short to the Colonials, 11-7.
Junior goalkeeper Dani Wiedmeier had 10 saves in goal.
George Washington (5-2) got on the board first with two goals in the game's first seven minutes. Bowman and Donodeo tied the game at 2-2 by scoring at 21:56 and 21:06, respectively.
The Colonials broke the tie with two back-to-back goals and went ahead, 4-2 before Froccaro found the back of the net for an unassisted goal at the five minute mark.
George Washington went ahead 5-3, but Donodeo scored with one second remaining in the first half as the Wildcats went in to the break trailing just one goal, 5-4.
Donodeo continued her assault in the second half as she scored at the 20:28 mark to tie the game at 5-5.
Over the next nine minutes George Washington scored three unanswered goals to take an 8-5 lead, but Froccaro and Bowman scored at 9:53 and 8:54, respectively to pull Villanova within one goal, 8-7.
The Colonials' defense was tough and kept Villanova from scoring again, while their offense scored three goals to close out the game with an 11-7 victory.
Megan Seidman led GW with five goals, while Addi Bolin tallied two goals. Goalkeeper Jess Hicks earned her fourth victory of the season.
Villanova will be off this weekend, but returns to action on Wednesday, March 21 to open a five-game homestand. The `Cats will host La Salle at 7:00 p.m.
