Final Stats

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova women's lacrosse (2-4) started out strong against Holy Cross (4-1), scoring just one minute into the contest, but a 14-1 run spanning two periods was too much for the Wildcats who lost 15-5 on Sunday at Villanova Stadium. Alex Garvey (Summit, N.J.) led `Nova with two goals both coming in the second half just a minute apart.

Christina Bahrs (Oceanport, N.J.) scored her sixth goal of the season at 29:03 to give Villanova their only lead of the game. Five minutes later, the Crusaders began the onslaught with four scores before freshman Taylor Lucy (Ocean View, Del.) found the back of the net at 18:02 making it 4-2. Three more Holy Cross goals made the score 7-2 at the break.

The second half began with seven Crusader tallies making the situation look bleak for the Wildcats. However, Garvey took over with her first goal on the right side from Stevie McFadden (Reisterstown, Md.) and the second on the left after driving through a group of defenders. Lucy scored her second goal of the day at 4:59 from Becky Gardner (Centerport, N.Y.) to make the score 14-5 as the Crusaders called timeout. Holy Cross came out and scored one more goal to end the Wildcat momentum and make the final 15-5.

Patricia Sutton led the Crusaders with four goals and Nikki Bolduc added the hat trick. Holy Cross outshot Villanova 26-16, and picked up 42 groundballs to `Nova's 30.

Jessica Brozena (West Long Branch, N.J.) took the loss for the Wildcats with two saves. Lauren Latchford (Morristown, N.J.) came in ten minutes into the game for the Wildcats and had eight saves. Megan Orr registered the win with seven saves for the Crusaders.

Villanova will go on the road for its next two games. Their next contest is at Colgate University on Mar. 18 at 12:00 p.m.
