Villanova Women's Lacrosse Tops Lafayette for First Win of Season

VILLANOVA, PA. - In the 2003 home opener for the Villanova women's lacrosse team on Friday, March 7, at Villanova Stadium, the Wildcats earned their first win of the season defeating Lafayette by the score of 6-4. Villanova evened its record at 1-1 on the year with the win, while the Leopards fell to 0-3.

The Wildcats put together a tremendous defensive effort on Friday, holding the Lafayette offense to only four goals on nine shots.

Leading the way for the Villanova offense was senior Elizabeth Firth who posted two goals and two assists. Fellow senior Meghan Carolan also contributed two goals in the win. Other goal scorers for the `Cats included sophomore Steph Haas and freshman Leslie McDermott. Sophomore Kate Komlo added an assist in the contest.

For Lafayette in the loss, junior Jennifer Stone scored three goals while junior Erin Gallagher had one.

In goal for the Wildcats, freshman Jess McGrattan earned her first collegiate win in net saving three shots along the way. Tracey Williams took the loss for Lafayette, despite stopping a game-high 12 shots.

Villanova will get back into action on Saturday, March 15, hosting Fairfield University at 1:00 p.m., at Villanova Stadium.
