LEWISBURG, Pa. - Led by sophomore attack Meghan Breen's hat trick, the Villanova women's lacrosse team (2-1) defeated Bucknell (0-4), 10-4, Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcat defense was on display in the first half as the team held the Bison scoreless through the first 30 minutes.
Junior attack Jessica Mucci got the Wildcats on the board first just over five minutes into the game. Breen scored her first of the game less than a minute later, while sophomore attack Kelsey Denihan added one at 18:30 to give Villanova a 3-0 advantage.
Villanova increased its lead to 5-0 in the second half as sophomore midfielder Shannon Galvin scored on a free position and Denihan tallied her team-best 10th goal. Bucknell got on the board at 21:26.
The next six goals in the game were on free position shots as Villanova went up 9-3. Breen tallied her other two goals while junior midfielder Hannah Goforth and sophomore midfielder Chelsey Henderson each added to the score.
The Bison added one more goal at 2:19, and Galvin put the Wildcats into double digits with just eight seconds left in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jaclyn Fraum followed up a strong performance against Navy with another great outing in her first collegiate start against Bucknell. Fraum made seven key saves in the game while limiting the Bison to just four goals.
Villanova held a 31-16 shot advantage in the game, including 15-5 in the first half. The Wildcats also tallied a 31-14 ground ball advantage.
The Wildcats host crosstown rival Drexel next Wednesday, March 5, at 4 p.m.
