Lauren Sparks returns to the Villanova sidelines for her third year as an assistant coach in 2013-14 after serving as a volunteer with the program in 2011. Sparks' responsibilities include the development of offensive and defensive strategies, practice and game preparation as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator.
Sparks began her coaching career upon graduating from the University of Connecticut as a four-year starter. She has served as an assistant coach with the SEPA Lacrosse Club in addition to working several camps and clinics including Amonte Sports Camps (Northwestern), Relentless Sports Camps (Connecticut) and Georgetown Lacrosse Camps. Additionally, she has directed and instructed weekly skill sessions as part of Star Hill Lacrosse Clinics.
As an undergraduate at the University of Connecticut, Sparks was a four year starting midfielder and a three-time captain for the Huskies. She was named the 2008, 2010 and 2011 Sam Witryol Huskey Award winner and upon the conclusion of her senior season was named the 2011 University of Connecticut Senior Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Additionally, Sparks was the 2011 Student-Athlete Day award recipient and was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
Off the field, Sparks is active in the community and serves as a Friends of Jaclyn Foundation Member and has participated in events to raise money and awareness for pediatric brain tumors. She also served as a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee from 2006-2011 as an undergraduate at UConn.
A 2011 alumnus of the University of Connecticut, Sparks hols a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communication Sciences. She currently resides in West Chester, Pa.
