Three Named to City 6 Squad
Dec. 6, 2005 VILLANOVA, Pa. - Three Villanova Field Hockey players were named to the 2005 City 6 Field Hockey Team the organization announced Monday. Senior Rory Rogers (Rosemont, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy) and junior Megan Foster (Berlin, N.J./Bishop Eustace) were both unanimous decisions while junior Lauren Campanelli (Langehorn, Pa./Neshaminy) alsoreceived honors on the 15-member team. All three were recognized for their play leading the Wildcats to a 15-5 record and a regular season Big East Co-Championship. Rogers recieved MVP honors and the Villanova squad was recognized as the top team in the city. Senior captain, Rogers, was second on the team in scoring this season with 17 goals and eight assists and named to the NFHCA All-American Third Team. These numbers were good enough to rank her 15th in the nation with 42 points and tied at 14th in goals. The stats have helped move her into the Villanova top ten in career points, goals and assists. She was also named to the 2005 All-Mid Atlantic Region First Team for the second year and played in the North/South Seniors All-Star game in Louisville, Ky. last Saturday. In the Big East, Rogers ranked fourth in points and goals. She was named to the All-Big East First Team and won Co-Offensive Player of the Year along with Louisville's Jessica Javelet. The senior had a multitude of highlights this past season but none will be as remembered as her two goals against Louisville, one the game winner in overtime the other the tying goal in the closing minutes of regulation, to get the win after coming back from a 4-0 deficit at halftime. Rogers' career numbers are some of the best VU has ever seen she has tallied 46 goals and 19 assists for 111 points. Foster continued her impressive Villanova career in 2005 by leading the team in scoring with 49 nine points, 21 goals and seven assists which placed her on the NFHCA All-American Third Team. She was tied for fifth in the nation in points and was alone in fourth in goals. Foster also moved into the Villanova record books in points, goals and assists with 102, 42 and 18 for her career. The Liberal Arts major was also named to the 2005 All-Mid Atlantic Region First Team. In the Big East, Foster ranked second in points and goals behind Javelet. She was named the All-Big East First Team. Foster scored one hat trick for the season against Lehigh on Sep. 21. She also showed her skills in the Big East Tournament, leading the Wildcats over Syracuse scoring both goals in the semifinal match. Lauren Campanelli (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) was the team's third leading scorer with 30 points from eight goals and 14 assists. Her other post season awards include All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team, Big East Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Big East. She made her mark by scoring two key goals in the team's upset of UConn earlier in the season and then moving to the midfield from up front to play a more defensive position. St. Joe's and Penn both had three players named to the list while Drexel, LaSalle and Temple all had two.
