VILLANOVA, Pa. - Two Villanova Field Hockey players were named to the 2005 Dartfish/NFHCA Division I All-American Third Team the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Tuesday. Senior Rory Rogers (Rosemont, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy) and junior Megan Foster (Berlin, N.J./Bishop Eustace) were both honored for their play leading the Wildcats to a 15-5 record and a regular season Big East Co-Championship.

Senior captain, Rogers, was second in scoring this season with 17 goals and eight assists. These numbers were good enough to rank her 15th in the nation with 42 points and tied at 14th in goals. The stats have helped move her into the Villanova top ten in career points, goals and assists. She was also named to the 2005 All-Mid Atlantic Region First Team for the second year and played in the North/South Seniors All-Star game in Louisville, Ky. last Saturday.

In the Big East, Rogers ranked fourth in points and goals. She was named to the All-Big East First Team and won Co-Offensive Player of the Year along with Louisville's Jessica Javelet. The senior had a multitude of highlights this past season but none will be as remembered as her two goals against Louisville, one the game winner in overtime the other the tying goal in the closing minutes of regulation, to get the win after coming back from a 4-0 deficit at halftime. Rogers' career numbers are some of the best VU has ever seen she has tallied 46 goals and 19 assists for 111 points.

Foster continued her impressive Villanova career in 2005 by leading the team in scoring with 49 nine points, 21 goals and seven assists. She was tied for fifth in the nation in points and was alone in fourth in goals. Foster also moved into the Villanova record books in points, goals and assists with 102, 42 and 18 for her career. The Liberal Arts major was also named to the 2005 All-Mid Atlantic Region First Team.

In the Big East, Foster ranked second in points and goals behind Javelet. She was named the All-Big East First Team. Foster scored one hat trick for the season against Lehigh on Sep. 21. She also showed her skills in the Big East Tournament, leading the Wildcats over Syracuse scoring both goals in the semifinal match.

Lauren Campanelli (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) was honored earlier in the week being named to the All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team. The junior midfielder was the team's third leading scorer and named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year.

This marks only the second time Villanova has shown up on the NFHCA All-American teams. Nova's other honoree was Missy Poalantonio to the third team in 1991. The Wildcats had arguably their best season ever with a 15-5 record, Big East regular season Co-Championship, first national ranking (ending the season at 15), top seed in the Big East Tournament and numerous other individual milestones.
