VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova field hockey team (3-12, 0-6 BIG EAST) closes out the season this weekend with a road trip to Georgetown (2-15, 0-6 BIG EAST) and No. 19 Delaware (12-4, 5-0 CAA).
The Wildcats play the Hoyas in College Park, Md., Saturday at 3 p.m. before traveling to Newark, Del., for their last regular-season game with the Blue Hens Sunday at 1 p.m.
In their last game, the Wildcats fell, 2-1, at Penn. The Quakers scored just 1:45 into the match, but sophomore forward Heather Smillie tied the game at 21:07 with her second goal in two games. Penn won the game with a goal less than 10 minutes before the end of regulation.
Junior forward Jessica Swoboda and junior back Maddy Harding lead the Wildcats offensively. Swoboda has 16 points (5G, 6A) on the season while Harding has 15 (6G, 3A).
Senior goalkeeper Alex Diekmann holds a 3.62 goals against average and a .615 save percentage on the season.
Scouting the Hoyas
In its last outing, Georgetown (2-15, 0-6 BIG EAST) fell to No. 1 Maryland, 9-0. The Terps scored seven goals in the first half and held a 32-5 advantage in shots for the game. Hoya goalkeeper Rosalie Nolen made 12 saves in the game.
Sarah Butterfield leads Georgetown offensively with six goals and 13 points on the season. Nolen has played in all 17 games this season and holds a 4.64 goals against average and a .653 save percentage.
The Hoyas are on a seven-game losing streak and have not won a game since Sept. 29. The team has been shut out in five of those games.
Last season, the Wildcats defeated Georgetown, 5-3. Junior forward Leah High was explosive in the game, scoring four goals and notching an assist. Sophomore forward Kayla Kenney also scored in the match and tallied three assists. Swoboda also earned three assists.
Scouting the Blue Hens
No. 19 Delaware (12-4, 5-0 CAA) defeated Northeastern 3-0 last Sunday. The Blue Hens scored two goals within two minutes of each other and added another off a penalty stroke.
Michaela Patzner has 11 goals and 27 points on the season for Delaware. Esmee Peet is second on the team with 10 goals and 24 points. Sarah Scher has played every minute for the Blue Hens this season in goal and holds a 1.50 goals against average and a .742 save percentage.
The Wildcats and Blue Hens last played Sept. 4, 2011 with Delaware taking a 5-0 win.
