Oct. 27, 2011

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova (7-9, 3-2) will go into the final BIG EAST game of the regular season against No. 6 Syracuse (14-3, 4-1) having already clinched a spot in the BIG EAST conference tournament next weekend. Strangely, the Wildcats are already guaranteed to face the Orange again next Friday afternoon in Syracuse at the annual conference tournament.

Currently, Villanova is the No. 3 seed in the conference and Syracuse is the No. 2 seed. Should Villanova defeat Syracuse this Friday at 4 pm at Villanova Stadium, the Wildcats will be the No. 2 seed and still take on Syracuse next week. The other match up will be No. 4 Louisville taking on No. 1 Connecticut.

The final BIG EAST regular season game will also mark Senior Day for three Villanova seniors. Goalie Megan Goelz (Yardley, Pa.), back Mallary Kile (Harrisburg, Pa.), and back Jordan Lynn (Charlottesville, Va.) will take the field at Villanova Stadium for the final time in their Wildcat career.

As a class, these seniors have won 35 games total, including 10 in the BIG EAST conference. In their careers at Villanova Stadium, this class is 18-9 over the past four seasons.

Goelz has been a steady net minder over the past four seasons logging 20 victories and 7 in the BIG EAST. She has a 2.41 career goals against average and a .730 save percentage in 53 career appearances. She has tallied seven shutouts, including one in the Wildcats last game against Georgetown.

Kile has been a constant contributor on defense for Villanova over her four seasons and 18 career appearances. She has provided consistent leadership in front of Goelz and has been a part of several shutouts in her career. She was also named to the BIG EAST All-Academic team as a freshman.

Lastly, Lynn has started 63 games in her four seasons on the Main Line registering eight points total, one goal and six assists. Three of those assists have come this season including a pivotal one against Rutgers in a 2-1 BIG EAST victory. Lynn has contributed to 13 shutout victories over her four seasons and was also named to the BIG EAST All-Academic team as a freshman.

The Wildcats will get a good look at their future opponent when they play them this Friday before having to face them again in the conference tournament. Villanova will have to deal with three double digit goal scorers in Kelsey Millman (16), Heather Susek (15), and Leonie Geyer (10). The Orange also have the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in Martina Loncarica.

Villanova points leader, freshman Jessica Swoboda (Hanover Township, Pa.), and fellow freshman Lauren Wilson will attempt to lead the Wildcat attack against Syracuse's strong goalie, Leann Stiver.

The game will start at 4 p.m. with Senior Day festivities beginning around 3:40 p.m. Check back to for results and a recap.
