Villanova Field Hockey Takes on Georgetown and Drexel This Weekend

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova field hockey team (7-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) travels to the nation's capital on Friday, Oct. 16th to take on the Hoyas of Georgetown University (1-13, 1-2 BIG EAST) at William Jacobs Field on the campus of American University. Both teams are coming off tough loses; Villanova fell at La Salle in a 2-0 shutout and Georgetown dropped a 6-2 decision against Towson on Oct. 14th. Villanova is looking to even their BIG EAST record against Georgetown after falling 6-2 against Louisville on Oct. 10th. Georgetown senior forward Kristen Volpe leads the Hoyas in goals (9) and assists (6) after 14 games while freshman goalie Clodagh Coghlan has recorded 667 minutes in cage and has a 3.46 GAA. On Sunday, the Wildcats make the short trip to Buckley Field in Philadelphia, Pa. for a 1 p.m. contest against fellow city-rival Drexel. The Dragons (12-2, 4-1 CAA) are on a three game win streak after defeating No. 16 Old Dominion 3-2, William & Mary 2-1 and Penn by a 4-1 margin. Junior Christina Mastropaolo (20 goals, 6 assists, 46 points) leads the Dragons in offensive statistics and recently established a new single-season record after recording her 19th and 20th goals of the season against Penn. Junior Susan Ciufo provides plenty of assistance after recording 16 goals and 7 assists (39 points) thus far in 2009. In goal, freshman Jenna Phillips has played all 984 minutes in cage for the Dragons and boasts a 1.78 GAA. The Wildcats will once again be led by juniors Meredith Sabatini (12 goals, 4 assists, 28 points), Lauren Wuzzardo (8 goals, 8 assists, 24 points), Dana Ramsden (8 goals, 6 assists, 22 points) and Meghan Ryan (7 goals, 8 assists, 22 points). The class, in addition to senior captain Emily Donaldson (2 goals, 8 assists, 12 points), have provided VU with the majority of the offensive firepower throughout the 2009 season. Sophomore keeper Megan Goelz leads the team in goalkeeping statistics with over 580 minutes in cage and posts a 1.92 GAA.
