Villanova University Joins National Foundation for Cancer Research to "Stick It to Cancer"
Sept. 28, 2012
VILLANOVA, Pa. -
The Villanova University field hockey team has joined hands with the National Foundation for Cancer Research to participate in the 3rd annual "Stick it to Cancer" campaign, in which field hockey teams across the country are invited to participate by committing to donate proceeds from at least one game to NFCR.
Villanova will be donating proceeds from their game versus Bryant University Sept. 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. to NFCR.
"Villanova Field Hockey is honored to support NFCR in our 3rd Stick it to Cancer game this Sunday," said Villanova Head Coach Joanie Milhous. "We have all been impacted one way or another by this disease, and we want to help make a difference in the fight against cancer. We look forward to everyone coming out and joining us for this great cause."
To raise funds, the teams will be collecting donations online as well as selling balloons at the event on which fans can write the names of loved ones who have fought cancer. The balloons will later be released as a reflective moment in support of the cause.
To donate online, please visit Villanova's fundraising page.

About the National Foundation for Cancer Research
The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a leading cancer research charity dedicated to funding cancer research and public education relating to cancer prevention, earlier diagnosis, better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for cancer. NFCR promotes and facilitates collaboration among scientists to accelerate the pace of discovery from bench to bedside.
Since 1973, NFCR has provided over $300 million in support of discovery-oriented cancer research focused on understanding how and why cells become cancerous, and on public education relating to cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. NFCR's scientists are discovering cancer's molecular mysteries and translating these discoveries into therapies that hold the hope for curing cancer.
