VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova field hockey's Francesca Bello, a freshman midfielder, was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon. The news came via a conference press release.
The award comes as the first for the freshman.
Bello (Princeton, N.J./Hun School) scored two goals and tallied her first assist off the bench in a 5-2 win over crosstown rival Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at Villanova Stadium. It was her first multi-goal game of her collegiate career.
The Princeton native has accumulated four goals and nine points during her freshman campaign. Her four goals are tied for a team-best with senior Jessica Swoboda (Hanover Township, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) while her nine points rank only behind senior Abigail Freitag (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) with 10 points.
Bello has recorded 12 shots on the season, nine of which are on goal while starting in six contests.
Bello and Jordyn Clipstone (Harare, Zimbabwe/Hellenic Academy) are also the only freshmen to appear in all eight games this season.
This is the third BIG EAST Weekly Honor Award for Villanova in 2014 as Clipstone earned the nod on Sept. 1 and senior Maddy Harding (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks) on Sept. 8.
The Wildcats return to action on Sun., Sept. 28 against Rider in Lawrence Township, N.J. at noon to close out the month.
