Megan Goelz earns her first BIG EAST Honor Roll nod

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Meredith Sabatini (Haddonfield, N.J.) and sophomore Megan Goelz (Yardley, Pa.) have both been honored by the BIG EAST Conference for their contributions to the Villanova field hockey team for the week of September 21st. The recognition marks the second straight week Sabatini has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll while Goelz earns her first award.

The previous week began BIG EAST competition for the Wildcats as they took on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers on September 18th in their first home game of the 2009 season. Quickly making a mark on their home turf, Sabatini posted two goals and an assist in the matchup while Goelz captured all 70 minutes in cage and came up with seven saves while facing 21 shots. The Wildcats came home with a 6-1 win that evening.

In the 4-2 victory over Bucknell on Sunday, Sabatini clocked in another two goals while Goelz posted 49 minutes in cage.

For the season, Sabatini has 8 goals and 2 assists which is good for 18 points in 2009. Goelz has totaled 302 minutes in cage and boasts 15 saves while earning a .714 save percentage. She's faced 43 shots this season and has played in all 7 games.

The Wildcats are back on the road this Wednesday, September 23rd when they take on Ivy League rival Penn . Game time is slated for 7:15p.m.
