Wildcats Host No. 14 Temple in BIG EAST Opener

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova field hockey team opens BIG EAST Conference play as the Wildcats host No. 14 Temple on Friday at 7 p.m.
The 'Cats (2-4) traveled to Kent, Ohio, last weekend to take on Saint Louis and Kent State. Villanova defeated the Billikens last Saturday, 4-2. Junior forward Jessica Swoboda scored twice while junior back Maddy Harding and junior forward Leah High each added a goal in the win.
The Wildcats were unable to keep the momentum as they fell to Kent State, 4-1, the following day. Senior midfielder Keira Zambon scored Villanova's lone goal in the game.
Swoboda was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for her two goals against Saint Louis. The Hanover Township, Pa., native is a crucial member of the Wildcats offense, and leads the team in goals (3) and points (6).
Villanova last faced off against Temple in 2005, with the Wildcats winning, 2-1. The 'Cats are 3-9-0 all-time against the Owls. Friday's game opens the "Battle for the BIG EAST" and Parent's Weekend. The Villanova cheerleaders and Will D. Cat will be in attendance at the game, and will be featured in a dance-off with fans at halftime. The game will also include a T-shirt and Frisbee toss. Scouting the Owls
Temple (4-2) split its games last weekend. The Owls traveled to Delaware, where they were shutout by the Blue Hens, 2-0, last Friday. Temple quickly rebounded from the loss by defeating Monmouth, 6-0, the following day at home.
Forward Amber Youtz was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals and notching two assists against Monmouth. Youtz leads the team in goals (8), points (20) and shots (20).
Goalkeeper Lizzy Millen has started all six games for the Owls this season. Millen has recorded 48 saves and has a 1.66 goals against average with two shutouts this season. She has allowed 10 goals.
